Why this is important: Disease prevention is key to public health. Vaccines have been able to control many infectious diseases, thereby decreasing the morbidity and mortality associated with those diseases.

Definition: Rate of reported cases of vaccine preventable diseases per 100,000 individuals; this measure includes Haemophilus influenza, acute hepatitis A, acute hepatitis B, measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), rubella, tetanus, and meningococcal disease.
