Vaping – Youth

Why this is important: Most e-cigarettes contain the addictive drug nicotine, which can harm the developing youth brain. Nicotine use in adolescence can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control. It may also increase the risk for future addiction to other drugs.

Definition: Percent of youth in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 who used an e-cigarette or vape pen in the last 30 days.

Data Source: Health Youth Survey. Washington State Department of Health. Calculations and presentation of data by Spokane Regional Health District, Data Center.
