DRUG RESISTANT INFECTION
Why this is important: Some microorganisms have developed a resistance to medicines that were previously effective in treating infection. Infections caused by drug-resistant microorganisms can be transmitted easily from person-to-person and be very difficult to treat. Individuals infected may require isolation or prophylactic measures.
Definition: Rate per 100,000 individuals of inpatient hospitalizations with an infection of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Data Source: Washington State Department of Health, Center for Health Statistics, Comprehensive Hospital Abstract Reporting System (CHARS). Calculations and presentation of data by Spokane Regional Health District, Data Center.
