Why this is important: Some microorganisms have developed a resistance to medicines that were previously effective in treating infection. Infections caused by drug-resistant microorganisms can be transmitted easily from person-to-person and be very difficult to treat. Individuals infected may require isolation or prophylactic measures.
Definition: Rate per 100,000 individuals of inpatient hospitalizations with an infection of methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
